Duplicates are two or more Treecat items for the same live listing. Open **Inventory → Fix Duplicates**, click **Calculate**, review each group, and approve: Treecat delists the extra items from every marketplace where they are live and then deletes them, keeping the one you chose.

## Why do duplicates happen?

- **"End item / Sell similar" on a marketplace.** This is the most common cause. Treecat imports the new listing as a brand-new item and keeps the old one. Use Treecat's [Relist](https://wiki.treecat.io/delist-relist-and-poshmark-sharing) instead, which keeps track of the new listing id and your crosslinks.
- Importing from several accounts.
- Old data from a previous connection of the same account.

## Fix duplicates

1. Open **Inventory → Fix Duplicates** and click **Calculate**. Choose the accounts to check.
2. Review each group. Treecat shows which item it recommends keeping and which it recommends delisting and deleting. Click **Keep this item instead** to keep a different one, or untick anything you do not want removed.
3. Click **Dismiss** on groups that are not really duplicates, for instance two identical items with different SKUs.
4. Click **Approve delist & delete** on a group, or select several groups and click **Approve Selected** to do them in bulk. **Dismiss Selected** dismisses several at once.

## What exactly gets removed?

Approving a duplicate **delists it from every marketplace where it is live and then deletes it**, so an old duplicate does not leave an orphaned listing behind. Each recommended item shows a link with the number of additional listings that will be delisted, so you can see exactly what will come down before you approve.

Some marketplaces limit how many items you can remove each day, so do large clean-ups in batches.

## Is Fix Duplicates the same as Matching?

No. [Matching](https://wiki.treecat.io/match-listings-across-marketplaces) links listings of the same item on **different** marketplaces so they act as one item. Fix Duplicates removes **extra** Treecat items for the same listing. Running Fix Duplicates is free.

## How do I avoid new duplicates?

- Relist from Treecat rather than with "End item / Sell similar" on eBay or a similar tool on another marketplace.
- Don't delete a marketplace account and add it again as a fix for a login problem; use [Reconnect](https://wiki.treecat.io/reconnect-a-marketplace).
