Setting up Treecat takes five steps: sign in with Google, install the Treecat agent if you sell on a marketplace that needs it, connect your marketplaces, import your inventory and sales, and match items you had already crosslisted. You can do all of it in any web browser, except installing the agent, which needs a computer.

Importing and matching are free. You are billed only when an item Treecat manages sells (see [How Treecat pricing works](https://wiki.treecat.io/what-counts-as-a-billable-event)).

## Before you start

- **A Google account.** Treecat signs you in with Google, so it never stores a password. Any email address can be a Google account; you do not need Gmail. See [Signing in](https://wiki.treecat.io/sign-in-and-login-email).
- **Working seller accounts.** Make sure you can create a listing directly on every marketplace you want to connect. Marketplaces have their own seller settings (payments, shipping, verification) that must be in place before Treecat can list for you.
- **A payment method.** Treecat needs a card with a ZIP code on file before it can connect to your marketplaces. You are not charged when you add it.

## Step 1: Sign in
Go to treecat.io, click Login and choose **Continue with Google**. If you have a promo code, type it in the **Promo code (optional)** field, or use **Browse affiliate codes**. You can also add a code later under **Settings → Affiliate**.

## Step 2: Install the agent (only if you need it)
The agent is required for **Poshmark, Mercari, Whatnot, Facebook Marketplace and Etsy**. It is not needed for eBay, Amazon, Walmart, Shopify or WooCommerce.

Download it from **Settings → Agent**, install it on a computer that can stay on, and sign in with the same Google account. See [Install the Treecat agent](https://wiki.treecat.io/install-the-treecat-agent).

## Step 3: Connect your marketplaces
1. Add your payment method under **Settings → Billing** if you have not already.
2. Go to **Settings → Marketplaces** and click **Add marketplace**.
3. Choose the marketplace under **Connect new** and follow the sign-in for it.

For eBay, sign in to the right eBay account in another browser tab first. For agent-based marketplaces, do this on the computer that runs the agent. See [Connect your marketplaces](https://wiki.treecat.io/connect-your-marketplaces).

## Step 4: Import your inventory and sales
1. On the Inventory page, click **Import**, choose your marketplaces and click **Start import**. The default **Quick** mode is fine for a first import.
2. On the Sales page, click **Import** to bring in your sales history.

After the first import, Treecat keeps syncing for you around the clock. See [Import your listings and sales](https://wiki.treecat.io/import-listings-and-sales).

## Step 5: Match items you had already crosslisted
If you listed the same item on several marketplaces before you used Treecat, link those listings so a sale on one delists the others:

1. Open **Inventory → Matching** and click **Calculate**.
2. Accept or dismiss each suggested group.

See [Match listings across marketplaces](https://wiki.treecat.io/match-listings-across-marketplaces).
