Getting started

Signing in and changing your login email

Treecat signs you in with a Google account. Here is why, what to do if you sign in with a different one, and how to change your login email.

Treecat signs you in with a Google account, using Continue with Google, so it never has to store a password. Your Treecat account is tied to the Google account you first signed in with, so always use that same one, in the web app and in the Treecat agent.

Do I need a Google account to sign in?

Yes. Treecat uses Google sign-in so it never stores your password. You do not need a Gmail address: any email address can be registered as a Google account.

Your marketplace logins are separate. You keep using your existing eBay, Poshmark, Mercari and other logins to connect each marketplace, and Treecat never sees those passwords either.

Why can't I log in with a different Google account?

Treecat accounts are tied to the Google account you first used. If you sign in with a different Google account, or after changing your email address, Treecat creates a second, empty account for it. Your inventory, connections and history are still on the original account.

If this has happened:

  1. Sign out and sign back in with your original Google account to keep working.
  2. Email [email protected] and say which address you want to use. Treecat support can connect the new address to your existing account, so nothing is lost.
  3. Do not delete the new, empty account yourself. Once support has connected it, it is your login.

How do I change my login email?

Email [email protected] from both the old and the new address. Treecat support will attach the new Google account to your existing Treecat account.

Please do not just start signing in with the new address, because that creates an empty second account (see above).

Signing in to the Treecat agent

The Treecat agent signs in with the same Google account as the web app. When you click Login in the agent, a page opens in your browser to link it. Make sure you are signed in to Treecat in that browser with the right account.

If you see "Couldn't link your agent" with the message that device codes expire after 5 minutes, click Login in the agent again and finish the page that opens in your browser promptly. Each code is valid for five minutes.

Can a helper sign in to my account?

Do not share your Google login. Invite helpers as guests instead: they sign in with their own Google account and work in your store. See Guest accounts and teams.
