Error messages explained

What Treecat's error messages mean, grouped by cause (expired login, offline agent, marketplace block, listing data, shipping, policy) and what to do.

When a Treecat action fails, the reason appears in the item's Events tab and in Settings → Events, and actions that are waiting on you show as Blocked in the Actions widget. Most messages come from the marketplace itself; this page groups them by cause and says what to do for each. The two most common causes are an expired marketplace login and an offline Treecat agent.

Where do I see errors?

  • The item's Events tab: every step Treecat took on that item, and the marketplace's message when one failed.
  • Settings → Events: the log of every action, with status, marketplace, message, product and listing ID.
  • The Actions widget (bottom-right corner): actions running, next or blocked. Blocked means "waiting on you", usually an expired marketplace login.
  • Inventory → Execution: job history, failures, and a Healthy, Degraded or Unhealthy badge for each marketplace.
  • Inventory → Problems: sales whose delists did not finish, with a one-click fix. See An item sold but is still listed.
  • The Sales page: a success or failure marker per marketplace on every sale, and the Qty sync filter.
  • The Warnings filter on Inventory: every item with a sync warning.
  • Email and banners: Treecat emails you when a marketplace needs reconnecting, the agent goes offline or a delist fails, and shows a Reconnect banner in the app.

Treecat is no longer signed in to the marketplace

Typical messages: "not logged in", "session expired — please reconnect", "log in again".

The marketplace login session Treecat uses has expired. Sessions expire every few months, and a password change or security check can end one early.

What to do: on Settings → Marketplaces, click Reconnect next to the account. For eBay, sign in to the right eBay account in another tab first; for Poshmark, Mercari, Whatnot, Facebook Marketplace and Etsy, make sure the agent is running. Blocked actions resume on their own once you reconnect; retrying before that will not help. See Reconnect a marketplace.

The marketplace account was disconnected

Typical messages: "account disconnected", "connection disabled".

The account was disconnected from Treecat on purpose, for example it was removed on Settings → Marketplaces. This is different from an expired login, and retrying will not help.

What to do: to let Treecat act on it again, connect it from Settings → Marketplaces → Add marketplace. If you no longer use it, find its items with the Accounts filter (under Removed) and move or archive them.

The Treecat agent was offline

Typical messages: "agent not connected", "agent offline", "agent unavailable".

Actions on Poshmark, Mercari, Whatnot, Facebook Marketplace and Etsy run through the Treecat agent on your computer, and it was offline.

What to do: open the Treecat agent on your computer (or start your cloud agent, if you use one), wait until it shows online, then retry. Make sure the computer does not sleep. See The agent keeps going offline.

The marketplace blocked the request

Typical messages: a security check or captcha, "access denied", "Error loading page", "blocked", a 403 error.

The marketplace temporarily refused the request with a security check or block on its side.

What to do: wait a while, then retry; rapid repeated attempts can extend a block. If it keeps happening, sign in to the marketplace in a normal browser on the computer that runs the agent, complete any verification, then reconnect in Treecat and switch paused schedules back on.

The listing details were rejected

Typical messages: "category is required", "required field", "missing title", "missing photo", "invalid price", "cannot sell".

The marketplace rejected the listing details: a required field is missing or a value is not accepted.

What to do: open the item, complete the fields that marketplace mentions on its tab, save, and retry. Common cases:

  • Mercari refuses a low-priced item when your earnings would be too low after shipping ("Raise your price").
  • eBay needs every photo to be at least 500 pixels on its longest side.
  • An ended eBay listing cannot be updated; use List instead.

See Why won't an item list?

The shipping settings were rejected

Typical messages: "shipping fee no longer valid", "shipping profile", "shipping option", "carrier", "shipping is required".

The marketplace rejected the shipping settings. Marketplaces, Mercari especially, change their shipping options often, so an option that worked before can stop being valid.

What to do: open the item, pick a current shipping option on that marketplace's tab (for eBay, also a package type), save, and list again.

The business policy is no longer valid

Typical messages: "invalid business policy", "fulfillment policy", "return policy", "payment policy", "shipping policy".

The marketplace, usually eBay, no longer recognizes the shipping, payment or return policy the listing uses, for example because it was changed or deleted on eBay.

What to do: on Settings → Marketplaces, click the gear next to the account and click Refresh policies. Then choose valid policies on the item's eBay tab, save and retry. See eBay auctions, promotions and policies.

The listing could not be found

Typical messages: "not found", "no longer exists", "already ended", "already sold", "not listed", a 404 error.

The listing may already be sold, ended or deleted on the marketplace. Update also records this error for items that are not listed on the store you chose.

What to do: check the item on the marketplace. If it is gone, select the item and run Import (or a Full import) so Treecat catches up; use List to put it back up. Retrying the same action will not help.

The marketplace flagged the listing for review

Typical messages: "suspicious", "counterfeit", "authenticity", "under review", "violates".

The marketplace flagged the listing under its own policies, for example counterfeit or prohibited-item checks. This is the marketplace's decision, not a Treecat error.

What to do: check the listing and any message from the marketplace, and edit the details it objects to before trying again. Contact the marketplace if you think the flag is wrong.

The marketplace is limiting how fast Treecat can act

Typical messages: "too many requests", "rate limit", "throttled", a 429 error.

The marketplace is limiting how fast Treecat can act right now. Marketplaces also cap how many items you can remove or relist per day.

What to do: nothing to fix. Retry later; queued actions are paced automatically. Do big clean-ups in smaller batches.

The action was cancelled

Typical messages: "cancelled", "was cancelled".

The action was cancelled before it finished, for example because a bulk action or scheduled group was stopped.

What to do: start the action again if you still want it.

Something else went wrong

If a message fits none of the above, retry once. If it fails again, email [email protected] with the Treecat URL of the item, a screenshot of the message, and the job id if you have one. See Get help from Treecat support.
